Pampas Grass Pink

Note:

Beautiful as it is, it's been brought to my attention that Pampas Grasses are extremely invasive; we're talking as bad as purple loose-strife!

Like Purple Loosestrife, this is a poor plant for sustaining wildlife, and it strangles out native plants that do support wildlife. In effect it leaves local wildlife without adequate food or shelter in the area it takes over.

Much thanks to Mimi in California for writing in to let me know about this plant. It seems wise for seed sellers to discontinue selling this plant, or at the very least, to mention it's invasiveness in catalogs! ~Amy

Salvia leucantha
Mexican Bush Sage

"As I was looking over your pictures I thought of a plant that I grow in my own gardens which might also be a good alternative for some. Mexican Sage (Salvia leucantha). They can reach 6' here, very slowly spread by underground runners, are perennial, and come in an assorted of colors and bicolors. The flowers are like chenile and hummingbirds here love them."

Jenra
Zone 9, California

Note: This is not a perennial in most areas (only hardy to 25 degrees). ~Amy
